SusDeLL is a collaborative initiative between Breda University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands) and Srinakharinwirot University, SWUIC (Thailand).

It was established to address urgent sustainability challenges in Thailand and beyond through innovation and transformation in tourism destination management.

From Knowledge to Action:

Flourishing Sustainable Destinations through Living Labs in Thailand

As Thailand faces rising global pressures from climate change, urbanisation, and tourism growth, the need for integrated, holistic interventions becomes critical. Living Labs offer a proven method by enabling real-world experimentation, stakeholder co-creation, and the swift translation of academic knowledge into practice. SusDeLL positions itself as the forefront of this approach, embedding sustainability directly within destinations.

OUR MISSION IN ACTION

The Initiative Advances Evidence-based Solutions

The initiative advances evidence-based solutions by linking research, education, and multistakeholder engagement. It brings together international academics, public authorities, industry, NGOs, and community representatives to co-develop policies and practices that support regenerative tourism, biodiversity protection, and inclusive economic development.

three priority areas:

Human-Nature Interactions

We place local communities at the heart of the decision-making process, ensuring tourism development preserves autonomy and generates direct economic prosperity.

Sustainable Tourism Systems

Implementing rigorous conservation standards to protect biodiversity. Our strategies integrate regenerative actions into every travel experience to restore natural habitats.

Thai-Dutch co-research

Management solutions that prioritize low-impact infrastructure, waste reduction, and renewable energy to minimize the environmental footprint of destination growth.
